cheri holland - founder

I have lived in the Roanoke Valley since 1984 when I married my husband of 32 yrs.  Art has always been a part of my life.  I have worked with acrylics, watercolors, charcoal, mixed media and  pastels.  Whether painting pictures, furniture, transforming walls into beautiful murals or faux painting I have expressed my passion in the arts. It has been a natural progression for me to enter into the exciting world of face painting, henna and balloon artistry.
It all started when my church, ​Fellowship Community Church ​needed face painters for a
Community Community Outreach​ Celebration event. We were a big hit and so it began. With the help of my family Creative Expressions was born​.  I have been face ​painting for the past 16 years​, ​doing balloon art​ for the past 8 years and now I have added Henna and Airbrush to my repertoire. I have found my passion in life and am so thankful to God that He has allowed me to use this gift for others. ​
 

Katie holland - general manager

I have always loved throwing parties for my family and friends, watching one's face light up with excitement is something that everyone can enjoy. Shortly after my mother started Creative Expressions I joined in on the fun. Face-painting at parties allowed me to bring joy to others. Before I knew it, I was training my friends to paint and my brother and his friends became our practice canvases. From baby sitting to dance instruction, I have always had a great time working with kids.

Hi. I am 22 years old. I have an associates degree from Virginia Western and I have been drawing and painting my whole life. I have been face painting for 2 years. I am looking forward to working with new people and advancing my skills.

​A few short years ago I picked up a starter pack of balloons to try to impress my son at his birthday party...um... it didn't really work out that way! However, I kept at it and a lot of practice and many popped balloons later I am now getting the "wow" and "oh that's awesome" comments I so craved.  I love using this skill to make others just as happy as him.
I have been a face painter and balloon artist for over three years. I've got over 10 years experience working with children in after school programs, day cares, and summer camps. I've taught art classes and recently got my associate degree in communication design.

outreach

Mission Trip to nepal 
In the spring of 2015, Creative Expressions owner, Cheri Holland, participated in a Mission Trip to Nepal. The purpose of the trip was to provide better life chances for women in Nepal rescued from human trafficking.
For four-weeks Cheri and others ministered, provided clean water for the young women, and offered re-skilling programs.

Cheri's enthusiasm was contagious as she taught the young women lessons about running a small business and how to face paint. Teaching and encouraging the women how to create a sustainable income enables them to live independently. Cheri plans to return and hold additional seminars on starting a business.
